1: Kendeja National Cultural Center
Established in 1964 along the Atlantic Ocean Beach in Montserrado County, it presents an overall picture of tribal life, customs and traditions of Liberia, though looting during the civil war caused damage to its cultural significance.
2: Monrovia
Explore Monrovia, the capital. It is a sprawling city on the coast divided by inlets, lagoons & rocky headlands. The city has several nightclubs, restaurants & bars, centred on the area around Gurley Street. There are several sandy beaches near the capital
3: Wildlife
Wildlife and nature enthusiasts should visit the Sapo National Park, located in Sinoe County. This pristine forest wilderness is home to a wide variety of plants and animal species. The park is only accessible on foot and consists largely of rainforest.
4: ELWA Beach
Just outside of Monrovia, this beautiful beach has a designated swimming area and is popular with families on the weekends.
5: Firestone Plantation
Firestone Plantation the world's largest rubber plantation is operating, although at greatly reduced capacity. There are no tours, but you may find employees who can show you around and explain the tapping process. Stick to the beaten path, as Firestone is one of several areas in Liberia where land mines have been found. The powerful, oil corporation-like presence of Firestone was one of the reasons the US backed Liberia's dodgy rulers for decades. In the era of banana republics, this country was even known as the Firestone Republic.
6: Fishing
Go fishing in Lake Piso, around 80km from the capital. Conducted tours of the Firestone Rubber Plantation, one of the largest in the world, make an interesting day's excursion, from Monrovia. The Kpa Tawe Waterfalls are four and a half hours from Monrovia
7: Sapo National Park
Liberia is home to 40 percent of West Africa's rain forest and a large variety of flora and fauna, and most of it belongs to Sapo National Park. Though traveling outside of urban areas can be dangerous, visiting the Liberian rain forest is an unforgettable experience, offering the chance to see monkeys, leopards, chimpanzees, antelope, elephants, and anteaters.
8: Silver Beach
There are some beautiful beaches stretching south and north of Monrovia, which fill up with locals and foreign residents on weekends; Silver Beach is one of the most popular. There's a restaurant here, small volleyball court, craft vendors, shower and toilet, and chairs and umbrellas for hire. About 2km further south is Thinkers Beach, also with a small restaurant, shower and toilets. St Martin's Beach, just beyond Thinkers Beach, is quiet and isolated, with no facilities, and is good for getting away from the crowds.
9: Masonic Temple (Monrovia)
The now ruined Masonic Temple was once Monrovia's major landmark. Since most Masons were Americo-Liberian descendants of the original settlers, the Temple was a prominent symbol of previous regimes, and was vandalised after the 1980 coup when the Masonic Order was banned. A grand master's throne from the temple, once used by William Tubman, sits on dusty display at the National Museum.
10: National Museum (Monrovia)
The National Museum is only a shadow of its former self, with a handful of dusty masks, drums and paintings, accompanied by some interesting descriptions.
